Tampa’s annual pirate invasion is happening this weekend. Going beyond the beads, maybe you can make a difference. Can you help find the owner of the mysterious Gasparilla locket?
Beads are a precious commodity when it comes to Gasparilla. One can’t begin to imagine the tens of thousands thrown to the eager Gasparilla crowds. The Sunshine Thrift Store packs donated beads and sells them at their retail locations. Sonya Hanks purchased a pack of bought a pack of these beads. She was planning on giving them to her students at Coleman Middle School. While Sonya was untangling the beads, she made a discovery. “I’m untangling the beads and sorting them out, I found this locket that was intertwined in the beads,” said Sonya.
When Sonya opened up the locket, there was a picture with a family of four. “I’m thinking that possibly, somebody was on a float, and they were throwing the beads and as they threw the beads, maybe this came off,” she said.
She saw the photo of the family and knew she needed to find them. https://t.co/bZvtALz0C0

Now Sonya is on a mission to reunite the locket with its owner. “That would be heartwarming. It would mean a lot to me that we found the people that had this and I’d love to see them have it,” she said.
