The State Needs Your Help To Keep This Tampa Bay Beach Clean
The State needs your help to keep this Tampa Bay beach clean. The trash keeps piling up making it difficult for people to enjoy this beach.
Tampa Bay is home to some of the best beaches in the country. People from all over the world come to our area to enjoy the sun, surf, and sand. Sadly one of our beaches has a huge litter problem.
The Gandy Beach literally generates tons of trash every day. The Florida Department of Transportation is aware of the problem. “Unfortunately we’re having a huge littering problem out here. So much so, we’re literally taking thousands of pounds every day of trash,” said FDOT spokeswoman Kris Carson. Over Labor Day weekend, FDOT cleaned up 10,000 pounds of garbage and debris.
The 20 garbage cans that are already on the Gandy Beach get filled quickly and the State is looking to add more. The other issue is that people are just leaving their trash everywhere which is not good for the beach or the surrounding environment.
FDOT is asking Gandy beachgoers to use the trash cans. If they are full, then bag up your trash and the trash around you, even if it’s not yours. Then throw away the bagged trash when you get home. Every little bit you can do helps keep this Tampa Bay beach cleaner.
