CONFIRMED: Toronto Raptors Starting Season In Tampa Due To Canada’s Coronavirus Guidelines
Tampa Bay Sports Commission has confirmed that the Toronto Raptors will be calling Amalie Arena home for the 2020-201 NBA season.
The players on the Raptors better bring their summer attire because they are going down south to start their season in some warmer weather. There had been speculation that the Toronto Raptors would call Tampa home for the 20-21 season but today it is official.
“The Raptors worked diligently with public health officials at the local, provincial and federal level to secure a plan that would permit us to play our 2020-21 season on home soil and on our home court at Scotiabank Arena. These conversations were productive, and we found strong support for the protocols we put forward. Ultimately, the current public health situation facing Canadians, combined with the urgent need to determine where we will play means that we will begin our 2020-21 season in Tampa, Florida,”
– Masai Ujiri, Toronto Raptors President
Let me be clear the team will not be the Tampa Raptors, they are still based out of Toronto, but Amalie Arena will be their temporary home. Maybe this could mean we could possibly get an NBA team in the future.
The NBA season is scheduled to begin Dec. 22, and training camps open on Dec. 1.
