Using Hazard Lights in Florida Rain is Legal in Certain Situations

Using hazard lights in the Florida rain is now legal in certain situations. These situations include heavy rain, fog, or smoke.

The new law went into effect today, July 1st.

Drivers can turn on their hazard lights when there is “extreme low visibility” while they are on roads with speed limits at or above 55 mph.

As of July 1st, over 100 new Florida laws went into effect, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal. From vaccine proof to tolls, here are the 10 that are getting the most attention.

• Vaccination status

  Businesses and schools can't require you to prove our vaccination status.

• More Sales Tax

  Out of state online retailers will have to charge Floridians a sales tax on purchases.

• Insurance Rate Increase

  Citizens Property Insurance can charge customers of the state-backed program more.
• Freedom Week Tax Holiday

  Share

  For a week, you won't pay sales tax on outdoor recreation, concert and sporting event tickets.

• Alcohol To Go

  Share

  Restaurants can sell alcoholic drinks to go. Initially the plan was to do this just during the pandemic to help restaurants out.

• Money From Out of the Country

  Agencies and universities will have to report any gifts or grants of $50,000 and up from any "foreign source."
• Moment of Silence

  Public schools must have one daily.

• Tolls

  Share

  The Florida Turnpike will extend tolls along the western part of the turnpike.

• Transgender Athlete Ban

  Transgender women can not participate in female high-school and college sports teams.
• State Workers Mimimum Wage

  It goes up to $13 per hour. Bonuses will go to first responders and $50 million will be allocated to raise teacher salaries.
