Rooting For The Tampa Bay Lightning Is Good For Your Mental Health
In today’s world, we need some positive things. According to a psychologist, rooting for the Tampa Bay Lightning is good for your mental health!
Our Bolts are trying to beat the odds once again in the Stanley Cup Finals and we’re gladly going along for this amazing ride! According to Licensed Psychologist Dr. Geoff Peal, following a sports team can improve your mental health and help you feel less alone. “Having a community makes people feel happier with their lives, makes people feel like they belong, and that there’s meaning. So it’s a mix of a distraction, but also this bigger thing of just bringing meaning to your life,” Dr. Peal said.
You can see that positive attitude and support everywhere you look in Tampa Bay. “GO BOLTS” signs adorn dozens of buildings, people are wearing Lightning gear everywhere you turn. It feels that everyone is channeling that energy to help guide our team to victory. “Even though we don’t directly control the outcome, we’re not out there on the ice, it does evoke this feeling of control of something in our life that is going well, that has an end and that we can celebrate afterward,” said Dr. Peal.
It’s a big night tonight at Amalie Arena for the Tampa Bay Lightning but everyone here is rooting for them. To quote Commander Peter Quincy Taggart, “never give up, never surrender!” Go Bolts!!!
