More Tampa Bay Traffic Troubles As Selmon Extension Is Closed
Get ready for more Tampa Bay traffic troubles as the Selmon Extension has been closed after an inspection discovered loose wires.
The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) shut down the roadway Sunday evening after an engineer discovered two wires had come loose from their anchors. “There’s no structural issue. It’s basically like a rope, and there’s lots of strands inside the rope, and one strand inside that rope is frayed, so we want to take a good look at that and make sure our engineers are comfortable with the fix for it,” said Sue Chrzan, a spokesperson for THEA.
THEA closed the Selmon extension while they continue to evaluate and repair it. “We’ll be looking at it over this next couple days and hopefully have an answer on how long it’ll be closed in the next couple days,” Chrzan said.
So what does this mean for the Tampa Bay commuter? Gandy Boulevard will be busy until they reopen the extension. If you were keeping track, the Selmon Extension opened on April 19, 2021 after three years of construction. You think they have a warranty on it?
