There have been rumors for years about their existence so we wanted to know is there really an underground tunnel network in Tampa Bay?
According to urban legend lore, Ybor City is the home to a network of long-lost tunnels. These alleged tunnels have been discovered in recent years due to all the construction going on in Ybor. There have been several news reports about them over the years.
There are many different theories about purpose of these tunnels. Were they used for smuggling liquor during Prohibition? Were they built for more nefarious purposes. Or are they just a forgotten part of the stormwater and sewer system? There is so much speculation and misinformation about the Tampa Bay tunnel network. The answer seems to be elusive.
It seems that even after these tunnels have been discovered, they will be lost again to history as construction in and around Ybor City continues.
