Air Force Needs People To Give Retiring Military Dogs A Loving Home

Retirement for a military dog doesn’t always come with a smooth ending. While most end up in their handler’s care, a decent amount become available for adoption.
According to Paw Buzz, the Air Force is reaching out to people willing to bring one of these dogs into their home after noticing a decline in adoption.
Ugh. This breaks my heart. These dogs serve our country and protect us….they should be living in be best places when they retire.
Lackland Air Force Base, the San Antonio, Texas, base where all military dogs receive training, is also where all adoptions are handled.
All of the dogs are around ages 10 to 12 and undergo a variety of tests to make sure the dogs are suitable for public.
Those interested in adoption a military dog must answer questions about their home, cannot have young children under 5 years old and must be willing to go to San Antonio to pick the dog up.
