Most People Are Walking Their Dog Wrong
Great advice on actually making the dog walk better for you both!
I saw this headline and was like what? Well…let me see if I’m walking mine wrong, cuz Louie gets 2 walks every day.
This is what the article said I found on People.com
PETA founder and president Ingrid Newkirk says pet owners are most likely rushing their pooches when walking them and that is the last thing you should do. It’s their walk. They sit inside all day with their legs crossed and its their one and only time to get out and stretch and see the outside.
Think about it….dog gets dragged outside….and as soon as he does his business…he gets dragged back inside to sit there all day. Not really a walk.
She also says you should allow your dog to sniff as much as it wants, you shouldn’t drag the animal along, and let the dog lead the way. She also advises dog walkers to stay off their phones and be present with their pet during the walk, and also to get their pet a harness, rather than a collar.
It’s interesting….I told myself in the new year I was going to stay off my phone when walking Louie and make it about him. She’s right. It’s his time…time we can share together. I’m usually on my phone talking when I walk him and I think its sad, I should be spending it with him instead…so I like the advice.
All they want is our attention anyway.
