Tropical Storm Laura Forms with Parts of Florida in the Forecast Cone
Tropical Depression 13 strengthened into Tropical Storm Laura Friday morning in the Atlantic. As of the 11a advisory from the National Hurricane Center, most of Florida is just outside the forecast cone.
The storm had maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour as of the 11a updated advisory. Tropical Storm Laura is about 210 miles east-southeast of the Northern Leeward Islands and is moving west at 18 miles per hour.
The system is expected to be near Puerto Rico on Saturday and current models show it near Florida early next week.
Laura is expected to reach hurricane strength by the time it nears Florida.
Pasco County has opened sandbag locations for residents that wish to prepare.
