2 Tampa Restaurants Named Best Cheap Place’s To Eat In America

Everything, from the expense of living to activities that are done for fun, has been impacted by inflation. As a result of the ever-increasing costs, restaurants are finding that they have little choice but to hike the pricing of the items on their menus. Despite this, there are still a great number of restaurants that offer good meals at prices that are reasonable.

USA Today did extensive research to compile a list of the most affordable dining options across the nation. Two Tampa spots have made the top 10! On the website, the research process was broken down as follows:

“In August 2023, we analyzed Google ratings of 28,000 budget-friendly restaurants across 50 U.S. cities. We considered everything from major fast food chains to mom-and-pop joints slinging American comfort food, from coast to coast. The only qualifiers are that a restaurant has to be designated as one dollar sign on Google’s cost scale and have 200+ reviews.”

First Place In America

The best place to get a meal for a low price was determined to be Mickey’s Sub. This Tampa restaurant provides customers with the opportunity to create their own subs in addition to serving hot and cold sandwiches. The Boars Head London Broil is consistently one of the restaurant’s best-selling main courses.

The Sunshine State dominated the Top 10 with three more restaurants appearing in the Top 10 alongside Mickey’s:

  3. Teatopia (St. Louis, Missouri)
  4. Tampa Bay Empanadas (Tampa, Florida)
  5. Cajou – A Plant-Based Creamery & Cafe (Baltimore, Maryland)
  6. Blues City Deli (St. Louis, Missouri)
  7. Varasano’s Pizzeria – Buckhead (Atlanta, Georgia)
  8. Mediterranean Deli (Orlando, Florida)
  9. Tacos Don Gera (Texas)
  10. Czerw’s Polish Kielbasa (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

Tampa Bay Spots Recommended To Be On Diners, Drive-Ins And Dives

Last year we told you about the best Florida spots Guy Fieri visited for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Now we were wondering what new spots should the Mayor of Flavortown visit on his next trip to Florida for Triple D? We asked our listeners on social media what they thought and these were the most popular responses.

Whether you love to cook or not, it’s entertaining to see all of the local places get a national spotlight. So far, 81 Florida restaurants have been featured on Guy Fieri’s show and 15 of them are in the Tampa Bay area or a quick drive to Orlando. Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives has been a staple Food Network show since 2007. 37 seasons and over 450 episodes later, it’s one of the most popular Food Network shows out there and still making new episodes! Florida recently got a shoutout on the show on the newest season in March 2023. Guy’s most recent trip to the Sunshine State was back in December of 2022. We didn’t know it at the time but he visited Big Lee’s BBQ in Ocala for what we thought was a normal day. Turns out he was filming for Triple D!

Not only does Guy feature a handful of Florida restaurants on Triple D. He also included a few Florida chefs on his game show Guy’s Grocery Games. The chef and owner of one of our favorite food trucks made it on the competition TWICE. He’s also featured chefs from Miami and Spring Hill!
