Know before you go, the Darius Rucker with Hootie and The Blowfish Tampa concert. We’ve got another big show coming to the Mid-Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre. Darius Rucker is coming to town on his Summer Camp and Trucks Tour and he’s bringing along Hootie and The Blowfish. This is going to be a great show. Opening will be Collective Soul and Edwin McCain.

Before Darius Rucker got into country music, he was in the band Hootie and the Blowfish and they had some huge hits. Hootie & the Blowfish formed in South Carolina, in 1986. The band’s lineup for most of its existence has been the four guys Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, and Jim Sonefeld. The band went on hiatus in 2008 until they announced plans for a reunion tour in 2019. They also released their first new studio album in fourteen years called, Imperfect Circle.

I’m sure he’ll be singing some of the big hits like, Let Her Cry, Hold My Hand and Only Wanna Be With You. We expect he will also do some of his country hits like Alright and Wagon Wheel.

There are some things that you should know before you head out to the show so make sure you have the best experience.

9:10p-11:00p: Hootie Set

Parking/Tailgate Area

General parking is included with your ticket at the Amp. You will need to enter through the MLK entrance or the 301 entrance.

Permitted Items/Bag Policy

Unfortunately you cannot bring in your own lawn chair. But you are able to rent a chair at the venue, or bring your own blanket. Other items not allowed include:

  • Weapons of any kind, including spiked jewelry 
  • Alcohol
  • Umbrellas (small/parasol umbrellas are ok)
  • Coolers
  • Laser pointers
  • Selfie stick
  • Food and outside drinks, except factory sealed water bottles
  • Strollers

Clear bag policy: clear plastic, vinyl or PVC tote bags no larger than 12 in x 6 in x 12 in and/or small clutch bags (4.5 in x 6.5 in). For more information Click HERE

Launa is part of Tampa Bay's Hometown Morning Krewe on 99.5 WQYK. She has been with the station for 7 years and joined J.R. and Kevin on the morning show 4 years ago. Since then, they have been nominated for not only a CMA but also an ACM. Launa has been in radio for the past 28 years and in the Tampa Bay market for 22 of those years. While working in radio, Launa has also served as an entertainment reporter on a local TV show and has hosted many charity events in the community. Using her popularity from QYK, Launa loves to help raise money for shelter animals and has been a volunteer at local shelters for years. Launa loves the community and writes articles on local news, entertainment, and events and highlights people who are shining in Tampa Bay that she knows others like her would also be interested in reading.

Five Pop/Rock Artists That Switched To Country Music

Ed Sheeran is the latest pop star to consider a switch to country music, He performed a new song with his buddy Luke Combs at the ACM Awards last week (5/11) in Texas. Over the years, several pop or rock stars have tried their hand at country music.

Sheryl Crow released a country album a few years back. She never left Nashville, living in the community and performing at events and benefits despite the fact that her country music career never really took off. Cyndi Lauper recorded a country album in 2015 and spent some time in Nashville doing interviews. She talked about the country songs she leaned on throughout her life.

In 2013, Kelly Clarkson released a song just for country radio that never really had success called “Tie It Up.” It was about getting married. Her marriage to Reba’s stepson Brandon Blackstock, which she gushed about in an interview for the song, didn’t make it either. They got divorced in 2020.

While many pop and rock stars have tried their hand at country music, only a few really made it all the way to becoming a country star. We wish Ed Sheeran well if he really wants to give country music a try. Here, we look at five pop and rock stars that had their sights set on country music superstardom.

  • Steven Tyler

    In 2016, Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler signed with Nashville’s Big Machine record label and released a solo country album called We’re All Somebody From Somewhere. It didn’t do much to bring the rocker into country music. But he didn’t quit his day job – Aerosmith has just announced their farewell tour.

  • Lionel Richie

    In the spring of 2012, Lionel Richie released a country album featuring many collaborations with country stars called Tuskegee. It featured Lionel’s own popular songs with Shania Twain, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan, and many more. The country album wasn’t a huge hit, but it did start the friendship between him and his now fellow American Idol judge Luke Bryan.

  • Ed Sheeran

    Ed is just beginning his dip into country music. He performed a song called “Life Goes On” with Luke Combs at the ACM Awards show. Sheeran said he would like to move towards country music in the future.

  • Elle King

    Elle King has been very successful in her dive into country music as she has already charted two number-one country songs, one with Miranda Lambert, “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home),” and “Different For Girls” with Dierks Bentley. King released her debut country album Come Get Your Wife in January. She is currently touring and has been embraced by the country music community and fans.

  • Darius Rucker

    Darius has been the most successful pop/rock star that switched to country music. So far, he has released five country albums, charted eight number-one country songs, and became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 2012. He has been nominated for numerous country music awards and got a Country Grammy for Best Solo Country Performance for “Wagon Wheel” in 2013.
