If you haven’t heard Mega Millions is getting close to half $1 billion for its jackpot. There was a drawing on Tuesday, August 13 and nobody won so now the jackpot stands at $464 million if you happen to win the Mega Millions you can take the cash option of $228.2 million if you won. The next drawing will be this Friday, August 16 .

How To Play Mega Millions

On their website they describe how to play. "Mega Millions tickets cost $2.00 per play. Players may pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers - five different numbers from 1 to 70 (the white balls) and one number from 1 to 25 (the gold Mega Ball) - or select Easy Pick/Quick Pick. You win the jackpot by matching all six winning numbers in a drawing. Until further notice, the starting jackpot will vary based on sales and will be announced before each drawing. There are a total of nine ways to win a prize in Mega Millions, ranging from the jackpot down to $2."

The Record Jackpot

The almost half $1 billion jackpot is far from the record jackpot. The jackpot for mega millions has been over $1 billion 6 times when it was won. The biggest jackpot came back in August 2023 when someone from Neptune Beach, Florida won the $1.602 billion jackpot. The person shows the $794.2 million cash out instead. Earlier this year one ticket won the $1.128 billion jackpot in New Jersey. The person chose to take the cash option which was $536.6 million.

There have been a bunch of people right here in Florida that have one big money from Mega Millions. Back in 2018 a man right here in Port Richey won the $450 million jackpot. He ended up taking the $281 million cash option. The crazy thing is is the kid was only 20 years old when he won the jackpot.
