There is a major Walmart Apple juice recall in Florida going on right now. If you purchased Apple juice recently from Walmart, you need to read this information.
We all try and purchase products that are healthy and good for our bodies. We trust that the companies selling the products are making sure they are safe for our families. Sometimes things happen and big corporations have to release a recall on products. This means you should stop using the product immediately, toss it, or return it to the place you purchased it.
This time, Walmart is recalling Great Value apple juice. This applies to Walmart apple juice sold in 25 states, including Florida. The six-packs of Great Value 8-ounce bottles were found to have potentially harmful levels of inorganic arsenic. Inorganic arsenic is more toxic to humans than the naturally occurring form of arsenic. They are recalling over 10,000 cases of Walmart Apple juice.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave the recall a more urgent classification last Friday after making its original announcement Aug. 15. The new classification said the affected product may temporarily cause adverse health consequences. It did report that is unlikely to cause serious or irreversible medical issues.
Very low levels of inorganic and organic arsenic are found in many food products, according to the report. Testing is routine, as slightly elevated levels of either form can cause symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, numbness and muscle cramping. Levels found in the recalled apple juice bottles are low enough that the FDA does not expect them to cause such severe health consequences, which is great news.
If you have small children in the home, it is so important to keep up on food recalls. Lots of children drink apple juice, it’s easy and healthy for kids. Check the dates of your Great value apple juice and discard any that could be contaminated.
