Luke Combs – Fast Car (Official LIVE Video)
Luke Combs has been singing his rendition of Tracy Chapman’s hit song “Fast Car” nightly on his current stadium tour, as he has been doing for many years before to that point. This past May, he made a trip to the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, and he caught one of those big sing-alongs there. He released it as a live music video this week.
This week marks the song’s third straight week at Number One on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, and it also keeps its first week at Number One on the Mediabase country list. Combs’ cover of Chapman’s song has been a radio juggernaut since its release. (It is also sitting pretty at Number Two on Billboard’s Hot 100 list, right behind Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night,” which has been at the top of the chart for many weeks.) Combs’ version, released 16 weeks ago, has now been awarded the platinum certification.
Chapman is the first ever Black woman songwriter to have a country chart-topper as the sole writer of the song “Fast Car,” which is featured on the North Carolina native’s most recent album titled Gettin’ Old. “Fast Car” can be found on the aforementioned album. “I never expected to find myself on the country charts, but I’m honored to be there,” Chapman said in an interview with Billboard. “I couldn’t be happier for Luke and all of his success, and I am so thankful that ‘Fast Car’ has been introduced to and received such positive reception from new fans.”
