Here are 8 facts about Baker Mayfield. Football is back and we have one of the best teams in the league. The Quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is Baker Mayfield and he is returning to for his second year. Last year was explosive for him as he surpassed everyone’s expectations.
Mayfield had big shoes to fill after the exit of Tom Brady. The Buccaneer fans are excited and ready for another big season that gets started this week in Tampa. The Bucs report to training camp this week and it will be open to the public on Friday.
Baker is new to the team, so if you don’t know much about him, this is a great read. Here are 8 facts about Baker Mayfield.
1. J.R.’s parents live in Austin, TX and that is where he grew up. They actually live in the same community as Bakers parents. They however, don’t hang out. Baker was born in 1995 and went to Lake Travis High school in Austin, TX.
2. He played football for the University of Oklahoma where he won the Heisman Trophy in 2017. He was the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft to the Cleveland Browns.
3. Mayfield is a really good golfer. When he isn’t on the football field, he is on the golf course. Lots of football players enjoy the sport of golf outside of football.
4. He loves his social media pages and updates them often. He has embraced the digital age and has over 1.5 million followers. He updates his fans on everything from family life, to football training. Follow him on Instagram or X HERE
5. He loves music. Rumor has it, he is a big fan of country music. When Morgan Wallen was here a few weeks ago, he wore a Bucs jersey with Mayfield’s name on the back and talked on stage how they are good buddies. Mayfield was not at the show that night, as Morgan pointed out.
6. Baker Mayfield’s loves animals, especially his dogs that he posts lots of pictures of.
7. He loves the Tampa Bay Lightning. J.R. ended up sitting right next to Baker at a game last year. That wasn’t the only games he attended.
8. In 2022, he had surgery to fix a torn labrum. It was in his left non-throwing shoulder.

Are you a Bucs fan? I am and have been one ever since moving to Tampa in 2019. I’m also a Lions fan because I was born and raised in Detroit.
