Here’s Why This Drink Was Voted Florida’s Most Iconic
Drinking customs differ from place to location, just like pretty much everything else, and some cocktails and other sorts of beverages are more closely associated with particular states than others. Let’s get into Florida‘s biggest drink!
I’m not going to lie… I was a bit let down when I saw this. Most states have a fun, adult beverage as the most iconic. But Florida? Eh. Just keep reading.
Some 29 state legislatures have named at least one beverage, drink, liquor, or soft drink as the official state beverage (and occasionally more). Surprisingly, 20 of those states have selected milk, probably representing all the main dairy producers. One left carrying water. Others mention a specific brand of soft drink or alcohol. One person has suggested locally produced tea.
The data:
24/7 Tempo has compiled a list of state-specific signature cocktails by looking through state websites, publications from the alcohol business, and numerous pop culture sources. These include certain types of alcohol or soda known to be consumed in great amounts in one state or another, as well as cocktails created in or inextricably related to numerous states. Milk only makes an appearance once. These are only occasionally the officially designated beverages.
For Florida, you ask? It is none other than Orange Juice. Yes… that’s it. I know we may not be surprised. But other states get cool brews and drinks! At least we can mix our amazing OJ with some great adult mixers! Florida’s biggest drink is good ‘ole OJ. 24/7 Tempo said this, about Florida Orange Juice in part:
“Florida is best known as the Sunshine State, but it’s the Orange State, too — producing about 70% of all the oranges grown in America. Whether on the breakfast table or mixed with vodka for a Screwdriver (or sparkling wine for a Mimosa) or in any other form, it’s the definitive Florida beverage.”
