Video Shows Florida TSA Agents Stealing From Passengers
During security checking at Miami International Airport, two Transportation Security Administration officers were caught on camera going through people’s bags and taking money. WTVJ says that Josue Gonzalez and Labarrius Williams were nabbed for grand theft in July. TSA stealing from passengers’ bags while being screened.
What went down?
The clips were shared by the state attorney’s office on Monday, September 11. They show one of the suspects playing with a small bag before pulling out what looks like a wallet. When the bag gets close to an X-ray machine, this happens again, and he walks away while putting his hand in his pocket. The two people can be seen rummaging through a black bag before one of them puts something in their pocket.
What does the police report say?
The suspects would “distract passengers while they were being screened so they could steal money from their bags,” according to a police report. In one case, police said that the two had stolen $600 from a passenger’s handbag.
Reporters say that a third TSA worker was held in connection with the case, but that the charges against her were later dropped.
Now what?
Gonzalez’s lawyer told CBS News that he had been put into a program that delays punishment. If he does it right, the case will be thrown out. He must also pay $700 to his victims over the next six months, do 25 hours of community service, and give up his airport security passes.
Williams, on the other hand, was not let into the program, he will go to trial next month.
TSA said that the officers are no longer doing screening work while the probe is going on. TSA stealing, and they get to keep their jobs?
