George Strait Records With His Six-Year-Old Grandson Harvey
Today, (3/29), George Strait releases his new album, Honky Tonk Time Machine.
The Country Music Hall of Famer enlisted the help of a very special guest, his six-year-old grandson Harvey, on the song “God and Country Music,” which George hopes will be the first of many times he’ll collaborate with him.
“When I recorded this record, we did it in Key West and I had my grandson down there with me, and we went every day to the studio, and so he’d have to get his charts and lyrics and follow along with everybody else,” says Strait. “But we ended up putting him on the song ‘God and Country Music,’ and he’s there on the end of it. It’s the first time I’ve ever got to sing with my grandson; maybe it’s the first of many.”
George really enjoyed recording with little Harvey, “I went in there and I kinda did it with him, and then I would kinda just back out and leave him, and so that’s how it worked out. He was all for it. He was all about doing it. He got really involved in that record. For six years old [laughs], that’s pretty good.”
Strait will be performing with Miranda Lambert at next weekend’s (4/7) ACM Awards which will air live from Las Vegas on CBS.
