Florida Woman Accused Of DUI Dines On Hamburger During Traffic Stop
Hunger strikes…even at the worst moments
Listen… when hunger strikes, not much can stop you. Not even a traffic stop, apparently. I mean, honestly, who likes to be hangry? When you’re off to jail… ya never know what or when that next meal will be.
Here’s what went down:
WOFL reported that while being questioned by a police officer, a lady who is suspected of driving while intoxicated in Florida calmly ate a hamburger. I don’t think I’ve ever “calmy” ate a cheeseburger, but I digress. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a Clermont police officer stopped Valerie Wolford at 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday (July 25) after she failed to properly stop after seeing a red light and proceeding through the intersection.
In the arrest affidavit, Wolford continued to drive on US-27 for a short distance despite the flashing lights of the police car behind her. According to the authorities, once she eventually stopped for the police officer, she instantly apologized to him before he could even say anything. She is said to have apologized once again after the officer informed her that she did it at the stop signal.
According to the affidavit, Wolford disclosed that she had just returned from McDonald’s just before the officer became suspicious of her because of the odor of alcohol that emanated from within her vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop, Wolford took a bite out of the hamburger that was sitting on the front seat, which the officer noted in his report.
Admitting is half the battle.
The driver ultimately admitted that he had consumed two vodka sodas before traveling to the quick service restaurant and that he had done so at a nearby pub. According to the officials, she allegedly had shiny eyes, a heated complexion, and delayed replies when questioned by the officer. The officer decided she was driving under the influence of alcohol after she failed a sobriety test that he gave her.
In the affidavit, she eventually consented to undergo a breathalyzer test as well, and the results revealed that she had double the permissible amount of alcohol in her system.
According to the online prison records, Wolford was booked into the Lake County prison on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. She was freed after posting a bail of $1,000. On August 9, she is scheduled to appear in court. I’m hoping she brings some burgers! Too soon?
