Teenager Sets Sofa On Fire At Ocala Hotel – Forces Hotel To Evacuate
According to WFLA, the authorities in Ocala Florida said that a young woman intentionally lit a sofa on fire at a Hilton hotel in an Ocala Hilton hotel. This led to the arrest of the young woman. At around 3:25 in the morning on July 25th, Ocala Fire Rescue personnel were dispatched to the hotel which was situated at 3600 SW 36th Ave.
As firemen arrived at the nine-story tower, the 320 guests were safely removed from the building by the hotel employees and the police. As soon as the firefighters entered the building, they discovered that the smoke was coming from a corridor located on the first level. Officials from the fire department stated that they utilized a thermal imaging camera to locate the source of the fire and extinguished it seven minutes after they arrived on the scene.
According to Ocala Fire Rescue, “In conjunction with the sprinkler system, crews used a water can to smother the flames, which consumed a couch and scorched an adjacent wall.”
The “deliberate nature” of the fire was noted by investigators, who then began their investigation into the cause of the blaze. According to the Ocala Police Department, this led to the arrest of a visitor from Peoria, Illinois who was 16 years old. After getting into an argument with her mother, she reportedly set the fire, as reported by the authorities.
It is projected that the hotel will have to pay a couple hundred thousand dollars to repair the damage. “Thank God, nobody was hurt,” the police said in their report. According to what they said, the evacuated guests were all back in their rooms the following morning. Officers, firefighters, and detectives were also commended for their service by the Ocala Police Department.
There is no information on the charges that the girl is facing. But she was arrested and taken to a local detention center.
