These cities will pay you to move there. Yes, you heard right. There are a bunch of cities that are looking to build their community and want to entice people to move there by offering them thousands of dollars.
The article lists about 7 cities that will pay you to move there. Don't expect to see any place in Florida on this list. We already have too many people moving here daily. In fact, Florida and Texas are the two states where most people are moving to. Naples was just voted the top place for people to live. One of the reasons people are moving is the cost of living. Seven cities are offering up incentives and compensation of up to five figures, which could help easing the overall cost of a move to somewhere new.
Columbus, GA is offering $5,000 for new residents. I used to live there in 1999-2000. I worked at a rock radio station located right in town. It's a small town about an hour outsider of Atlanta. It wasn't bad, but not a place I would want to move back to. Not sure $5,000 would do it for me.
Lincoln County, Kansas is offering less, at $4,500 to make the move. Lincoln county is in the middle of the Kansas, but about 130 miles from Wichita. Their population is fewer than 3,000. Additional perks include a $500 internet credit, a gym membership and a monthly basket of farm-fresh eggs. Hey Now!
Mississippi County, Arkansas is offering up to $50,000 for someone to make the move. With this much money, you need to build or renovate a home and must work for two of the areas big steel companies. Since the Work Here, Live Here launch in 2022, the county has attracted 80 new buyers, many of whom are first-time homeowners.
Newton, Iowa, which is just 30 minutes from Des Moines is offering $10,000. You do need to purchase a home worth at least $240,000. You are not required to remain in the home for any specific time though.
The Shoals, Alabama, you can also receive $10,000 for moving there. The first $2,500 is supposed to help with moving costs. Another $2,500 is handed out after six months with the final $5,000 given out after a year.
Tulsa, Oklahoma will give you $10,000. Program requirements include currently having a full-time remote job and living outside of Oklahoma for one full year before applying. In Oklahoma, the average home value is $195,594
And finally, they will pay you $20,000 to move to West Virginia. Anywhere in West Virginia too. Applicants must be 18 years or older and already have a full-time remote job to qualify for the program. Participants will receive $10,000 over their first year paid in monthly installments. Cities such as Morgantown and Greenbrier Valley offer additional incentives that bring the total up to $20,000.
This is a great opportunity to get a heads start especially if you work remotely. Why not make some extra money. It sounds like these could be real helpful to people. I'm betting the cost of living isn't too crazy in these towns either as it sounds like they need to add more residents.
