Florida McDonalds To Pay $800,000 For McNugget Burn
McPayOut! McSettlement! McMoolah! McMoney… I can go on for days. But, let’s move from making this about cunning dad jokes and talk about this McPayDay… sorry.
On Wednesday, a jury in Florida awarded a little girl who had been severely burnt by a McDonald’s Chicken McNugget a total of $800,000 in damages for her injuries.
When Olivia Caraballo was four years old in 2019, she was eating in the backseat of her mother’s car when a chicken McNugget dropped over her lap and caused a burn of the second degree. The McDonalds in play is located in Tamarac, near Fort Lauderdale. The incident occurred in 2019. Her mother, Philana Holmes, filed a lawsuit against the fast-food behemoth McDonald’s for $15 million, claiming that the company was negligent and did not provide any warnings about how hot the meal was. The defendant, McDonald’s, argued that the McNuggets were served at the appropriate temperature; nonetheless, the jury found in the plaintiff’s favor.
The attorneys for McDonald’s recognized the girl’s sad damage but contended that her agony and misery ceased after the burn healed in around three weeks. They further stated that this complaint was the mother’s attempt to extort money from them. They offered her $156,000, but a jury found that she was entitled to damages for her suffering and the permanent scar she now has on her leg. These factors contributed to the jury’s decision.
