When the power goes out while you’re at home, you can navigate around with a flashlight, but it’s not as easy to navigate around town in a car when the power is out.
Traffic lights are unable to function when the power is out, and the lack of operable traffic lights at intersections can cause confusion. Failure to stop could also result in a motor vehicle accident.
For evacuees returning home today, or people venturing outside your home for the first time since Hurricane Irma arrived, you should use caution when approaching traffic lights.
If the traffic light isn’t flashing, motorists should proceed to follow the driving rules regarding a four-way stop.
