The History Of Pig Jig
One of the reasons we love this event so much, is because it was founded by a bunch of guys in their garage with the idea of helping out a friend.
When Will Wellman was diagnosed with a rare type of kidney disease FSGS, a group of lifelong Tampa friends joined forces to host a backyard barbecue – and they called it Pig Jig. The get-together was a small fundraiser for their friend and his new diagnosis. What began as a backyard cookoff among friends has grown into the Tampa Pig Jig on the River, an annual waterfront fundraiser complete with nationally recognized country and rock music artists, delicious food, ice-cold beer, a corporate BBQ competition, and more!
Since it started in 2011, Tampa Pig Jig has donated millions to NephCure Kidney International, becoming its largest annual donor nationwide, and has helped launch more than 26 clinical trials. You can donate to the cause HERE.
Tampa Pig Jig: Sam Hunt, Kip Moore And BBQ
Sam Hunt and Kip Moore really stole the show at the 2022 Tampa Pig Jig. What started in a backyard has now grown to one of the biggest and most anticipated festivals in Tampa Bay.
One of Tampa’s favorite annual fundraiser events is back for its 11th year. It was a beautiful October Saturday for Tampa Pig Jig to take over Julian B. Lane Park in Downtown Tampa. This year the premier philanthropic community event welcomed some of QYK favorite artists. Multi-Platinum singer/songwriter Kip Moore joined the lineup with headliner multi-Platinum-selling, award-winning hitmaker Sam Hunt.
Talented BBQ pit masters were spread over all around the riverfront park. Filling the area the the smells of some delicious BBQ flavors.
Country music started to take over the day as Kip Moore took the stage with some of his hits like “Fire And Flame,” “Wild Ones,” and “Beer Money.” We even got to hear a “Purple Rain” cover. Kip was looking great during Tampa’s golden hour. He was rocking a bad boy look of all-black tank top and jeans, but we know the Morning Krewe was kinda hoping he wore this.
After the infamous BBQ awards were handed out, Sam Hunt took the stage in a traditional Mickey Mouse/Florida t-shirt.
The Tampa Pig Jig is an annual fundraising event for NephCure Kidney International. The only nonprofit organization committed to funding research, improving treatment and finding a cure for the debilitating kidney disease: Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and Nephrotic Syndrome.
