Luke Bryan is defending his decision to invite Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to a show Friday night after getting pushback on social media.

A video clip shared on Twitter, Bryan told the crowd that they were going to have some fun and raise some money tonight for the great state of Florida.  First of all, he is referring to proceeds from his shows going toward the Florida Disaster Fund, which is raising money for people impacted by Hurricane Ian.  Along with this, he was doing a show in Florida, Jacksonville, Florida.

In addition to the devastating weather and destruction Hurricane Ian brought to Florida, Luke's shows were also postponed in September.  Nevertheless,  Luke is making up those shows this week.

Contrary to what the reason was, fans started commenting on social media that they were upset that Luke had DeSantis on stage.

By Sunday, Bryan shared a statement on Twitter defending his decision.

"I typically don't respond to stuff when I'm getting run down on a social platform but here's the deal," Bryan wrote. "I understand Governor DeSantis is a very polarizing figure. But I grew up in a country where if a governor asks you if they can come and raise awareness to help victims of a natural disaster you help."

Bryan wrote in the post that he generally stays out of politics but knew people would chatter about this.  He went on to say that people in Florida have been good to him and he wanted to help those who have been affected by a Hurricane Ian.

"This is all I'm saying about this. I'll be outdoors with my boys. Enjoy your Sunday. Love y'all.

Our show in Tampa is this Saturday November 5th at the Mid Florida Credit Union Amphitheater.  Keep listening this week at 9:30 and 5:30 to win tickets into the show!
