It’s never fun driving through construction each day, but knowing that the new bridge is going to be bigger and better and help with traffic, most are excited about the progress. As we head into 2024 we can really see how much has already been done.

The FDOT reported that the design-build project is building a new southbound/westbound (from Tampa to St. Petersburg) interstate bridge over Old Tampa Bay between Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. Also, The new bridge will consist of eight lanes; four general use lanes, (Tampa to St. Petersburg) and four Express lanes; two lanes from the St. Petersburg side toward Tampa, two lanes from the Tampa side toward St. Petersburg. In addition to all of that, a bicycle/pedestrian pathway separated from the roadway will is also included. This is great news for those who love to ride their bike as this will be a beautiful ride for some.
What Will Happen To The Old Bridge
Once the new bridge is built what will happen to the old bridge? First of all, all traffic will be moved off of the existing bridge. The existing northbound/eastbound bridge will be removed. The plan is to take the bridge down in pieces and remove the pieces from out of the water.
