Iconic Ybor City Restaurant Has Closed
Another restaurant has closed due to the coronavirus pandemic and this time it is an iconic Ybor City restaurant. La Tropicana Cafe, which opened in Ybor in 1963, has become the latest restaurant to close their doors permanently. The operator of the restaurant, Gio Peña, said, “I’d say 80 percent of my regular customers are older people. They are afraid to come out.” Many politicians have dined at La Tropicana including Presidents George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter also Florida Governors, Lawton Chiles and Bob Martinez.
