Dan And Shay Excited About J.R.’s Baby News

We got a call today from Dan and Shay and they are excited about J.R’s baby news.  They also talked about their new album, song and the tour they are getting ready to head out on.  We first talked about J.R. and his new baby.  Shay commented on the picture we posted of J.R. holding his baby.  Shay said he looked a little scared and that he might have to learn how to change his own diaper.

Stuff like J.R. having a baby, the boys now having families and growing into bigger houses is exactly where they are in their lives at the moment and that is why their new single is about stuff just like J.R. is going through.

The boys just got done celebrating their 10th number one song with “Save Me The Trouble“, also off the Bigger Houses album.  This album came at a time when the boys were just getting back to being a duo.  They had spent a long time apart and both of them admit they didn’t know what the future of Dan + Shay was going to be.  After a night of “talking” they did what they do best.  They wrote music together and that is where the album Bigger Houses came from.

Bigger Houses Song

The song “Bigger Houses” was born from a conversation Abby Smyers, the wife of Dan Smyers, had with Andy Albert, a writing collaborator, and Emily, Andy’s wife.

In an article from Billboard, Andy and Emily had just bought a dream home with a big yard and all the things everyone dreams of having.  The conversation continued about how people are always looking forward to what is ahead, and sometimes stop appreciating what they have.   The two confessed that they couldn’t afford a meal when we moved to Nashville, no could they afford heat or AC in the house.  They realized that they have come a really long way.

They jotted down the phrase “Bigger Houses” and brought it into a writing session.  Abby even said the line, Happiness isn’t found in bigger houses and they knew that was a song they wanted to write that day.

Interview

In the interview Shay said the song represents exactly where we are in their lives right now.  He said happiness is all about being surrounded by people you love, and that they keep learning that more and more everyday.  The two are very grateful for each other, their families, and grateful for their fans and that they get to wake up and make music everyday for a living.

Dan + Shay are getting ready to hit the road on the Heartbreak On The Map Tour and hinted that they would be coming to Tampa.  Launa even mentioned that since Dan’s parents live here, they should probably stop in Tampa.

    What a fantastic love song. Twain always sings this at her concerts. Shania wrote the song when she “drifted off” when she attended a soccer game in Italy that she was not interested in.

    This song is written primarily for weddings. The video features footage from Smyers’ and Mooney’s 2017 weddings, including the grooms’ first looks at their brides, the brides walking down the aisle, and the couples’ introductions at their respective receptions.

  • 2 - "Die A Happy Man" - (2015)

    This song is an amazing love letter to Thomas’ wife, Lauren, who appears in the video. The video was shot on location on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii.

  • 1 - "Forever After All" - (2020)

    While there are many country music songs for a wedding, this one is a no-brainer. The song’s official video features clips from Luke’s August 2020 wedding to Nicole Hocking.

Launa is part of Tampa Bay's Hometown Morning Krewe on 99.5 WQYK. She has been with the station for 7 years and joined J.R. and Kevin on the morning show 4 years ago. Since then, they have been nominated for not only a CMA but also an ACM. Launa has been in radio for the past 28 years and in the Tampa Bay market for 22 of those years. While working in radio, Launa has also served as an entertainment reporter on a local TV show and has hosted many charity events in the community. Using her popularity from QYK, Launa loves to help raise money for shelter animals and has been a volunteer at local shelters for years. Launa loves the community and writes articles on local news, entertainment, and events and highlights people who are shining in Tampa Bay that she knows others like her would also be interested in reading.
