Parmalee Uses Tragedy To Shape New Touching Song
Parmalee uses tragedy to shape new touching song. We got a chance to talk with Matt from Parmalee on the show today. Matt Thomas is the lead singer and we got to catch up with him about their new single Gonna Love You. They weave it into the new video they just released.
Parmalee has had some big success with their last three singles, Just The Way, Take My Name and Girl In Mine. The song they just released is different. It’s called Gonna Love You and it’s a love song with a slower tempo then their last number ones. It’s a beautiful song, but has a story behind it. Matt told us he wrote the song with their producer and manager David Fanning and songwriters Abram Dean and Andy Sheridan in 2022. Their mission was to shake up their sound and crank up the volume on his vocals. It’s the first time they have really showcased his high range of vocals. They were thinking grand melody, grand idea, something big and universal that could be used in a movie. Parmalee also took the tragedy that happened in 2010 to them and shaped this touching new song.
Story Of The Shooting
Matt told us what had happened to the band in 2010. Parmalee was the victim of an attempted robbery at the band’s RV after a performance in Moline, Illinois. Two men approached the RV with guns drawn and demanded money from the band members.
One of the robbers opened fire, shooting drummer Scott Thomas three times. Despite his injuries, Thomas was able to fight off the robbers and protect his bandmates. Thomas spent 35 days in hospital, including 10 in a coma, but he eventually made a full recovery. The guys held on tight to each other during this time and all made it through. They are now talking about it and wanted to weave this story into the songs video.
The video includes a re-enactment of the day of the violence, shooting and the time Scott spent in the hospital.
This year is about new music and a new album. The boys are also on the road with Kane Brown tour this year. Kane Brown, Tyler Hubbard and Parmalee will be at the Amalie Arena on May 31st and June 1st. Click HERE to sign up to win tickets.

Pollstar recently released the top-grossing tours of 2023. And it’s no surprise that Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour took the top-grossing spot. Taylor’s 60 stadiums tour set a record and is the first tour ever to cross the 10-digit threshold. Whether you’re a fan or not, that’s pretty impressive. Her 3 days in Tampa have brought a lot of economic good to the area with so many people visiting from other cities/states. The second top-grossing tour of 2023 is Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour. For the first time in 15 years, two women, including a woman of color, had the year’s top grosses. The third top-grossing tour of 2023 was Bruce Springsteen’s “Springsteen and E Street Band 2023 Tour, which stopped in Tampa on February 1st, 2023.

2024 is going to be a BIG year for concerts. So many big acts have already announced tours next year. We’re looking forward to Kenny Chesney at Raymond James Stadium in April and Morgan Wallen’s first stadium tour this summer. Tim McGraw and Kane Brown are coming to Amalie Arena next year and we still expect a lot more shows to be announced for the summer of 2024. Live Nation usually releases the lineup for the summer concert lawn pass early in the year and is normally packed with shows of all genres!
