Five Things We Know About The Missing Titanic Expedition
There is a missing Titanic expedition, which is a tourist submersible carrying five people. It disappeared on Sunday with up to 96 hours of oxygen supply. The submersible is named Titan and is operated by OceanGate. It is a US-based company that offers crewed submersibles for industry, research and exploration.
The US Coast Guard is on site searching for the missing submersible.
Here are five things we know about it.
- The wreck of the Titanic is 900 nautical miles east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
- There are five people on board. A British billionaire named Hamish Harding. Also, Pakistani businessman, Shahzada Dawood, and his son, Suleman. French mariner Paul-Henry Nargeolet and CEO of OceanGate, Stockton Rush are also on board.
- The cost of the adventure is $250,000 for an eight-day trip, which includes dives to the wreck of the Titanic.
- It generally takes about two hours for them to get down to the wreckage. Contact was lost after just an hour and 45 minutes.
- There’s no GPS or radio onboard. They communicate through text messages from a ship, which tells them where to go. The submersible is maneuvered using an off-brand Xbox controller.
