There are things you should not do at a restaurant, but maybe you have done a few of these. So there was a YouGov survey to find out the things you should not do at a restaurant. They asked 1,000 American adults about 40 different restaurant behaviors. 20 of those are by customers and the other 20 are by the restaurant management or staff.
The 10 Things You Should Not Do At A Restaurant
So, these are the 10 things that are unacceptable to the Americans that took the survey. The % is the % of U.S. adult citizens that say it is unacceptable.
- Say they won’t pay for a dish they didn’t like but ate (90%)
- Allow their children to roam freely (90%)
- Debate menu prices with the staff (84%)
- Stay past the restaurant’s closing time (83%)
- Snap their fingers to get the waiter’s attention (81%)
- Bring outside food or drinks into the restaurant (71%)
- Show up 15 minutes late to a reservation (66%)
- Leave a mess at the table, such as spilled drinks or food crumbs (60%)
- Occupy a table for an extended period during busy hours (58%)
- Flirt with the staff (57%)
Am I am guilty of any of these? I have been in the past, but the only one I can say that I have done is not clean up my crumbs before I leave. I would never eat my food and then say it wasn’t good, and then refuse to pay. Who does that?
What Americans Think Restaurants Should Never Do
So, there are things you should not do at a restaurant, but what about things the restaurant shouldn’t do? The people who took the survey said the top thing that restaurants shouldn’t do is charge for tap water. Following that that restaurants that do not indicate prices on the menu. Additionally, to require each guest to spend a minimum amount, play music at a high volume, and not be willing to split the bill among multiple guests.
