Riverview High School Students Catch Massive Grouper
Some Riverview High School students caught a massive grouper a few weekends ago. Isaac Francis, who is a junior at Riverview High School, caught a goliath grouper that was estimated to be over 250 pounds. He had to help of his friends to real in the giant fish. He was fishing off of turtle Beach a couple weekends ago when they caught the massive fish. Isaac’s dad told FOX 13 that Isaac is an avid fisherman and has been since he was young.
Turtle Beach is located on South Siesta Key in Sarasota. It is known as Turtle Beach because of the sea turtles that nest there.

How Big Can A Goliath Grouper Get?
The goliath grouper can grow up to 8 feet and length and weigh up to 800 pounds. They can also live for more than 30 years. Here is what NOAA fisheries says about where it is found, “The goliath grouper is found primarily in shallow tropical waters among coral and artificial reefs. Its range includes the Gulf of Mexico and Florida Keys in the United States, the Bahamas, most of the Caribbean, and most of the Brazilian coast. On some occasions, goliath grouper have been caught off the coast of New England in Massachusetts and Maine. In the eastern Atlantic Ocean, goliath grouper are found off the coast of Africa from the Congo to Senegal.”
The History Of Riverview
Riverview was founded in 1885 on the north shore of the Alafia river. Before it was known as Riverview it was called Peru. Peru was located on the south side of the river. Additionally, the name Peru existed for around 100 years and was one of the oldest settlements in central Florida. In the 1940’s Riverview took over Peru, so then the Peru name ceased to exist. Finally, the Alafia river is translated into river of fire due to the phosphorus on the early river bottom glowing at night.
