When To Watch For The Solar Eclipse In Tampa Bay
So, even though we won’t get a full solar eclipse in Tampa Bay, you still will be able to see something. This year‘s solar eclipse is not a total solar eclipse, but it’s actually called an annular solar eclipse. It will be taking place on October 14 and you will be able to see it here in Tampa Bay. The partial eclipse will begin at 11:50 a.m. The maximum eclipse in Tampa Bay will be at 1:25 p.m. That partial eclipse will end at 3:02 p.m. here in Tampa Bay. So, the partial eclipse will be around for 3 hours and 12 minutes. Additionally, if this is a cloudy day you will have trouble seeing this solar eclipse. If the sky is clear you’ll be able to see it. Remember, don’t look directly into the sun. There are eclipse sunglasses that you will be able to buy.
NASA describes what an annular solar eclipse is, “An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, but when it is at or near its farthest point from Earth. Because the Moon is farther away from Earth, it appears smaller than the Sun and does not completely cover the Sun. As a result, the Moon appears as a dark disk on top of a larger, bright disk, creating what looks like a ring around the Moon.” Make sure you catch what you can of the annular solar eclipse her in Tampa Bay.
The actual path of the annular solar eclipse will start in Oregon. It will then pass over Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas before going over the Gulf of Mexico. The next total solar eclipse will be on April 8, 2024. That’s where if you’re in the path of totality the moon completely blocks out the sun. When that happens the sky will go dark like it is night time.
