Florida Man Attempts To Cross Atlantic In Hamster Wheel
A Florida man attempted to cross Atlantic Ocean in a hamster wheel. Yes, that is a real headline. The man said he was trying to go to London, but he was captured 70 nautical miles east of Tybee Island, Georgia. The man’s name is Ray Baluchi, and he was charged with obstruction of a boarding and violation of a captain of the port order. The hamster wheel was afloat because of wiring and buoys. Officers deemed that the hamster wheel was unsafe for the voyage from the United States to London. Ray didn’t want to get off the hamster wheel at first, but ended up doing so. He was not injured when the officers found him.
If Ray or someone else were to try that journey it won’t be an easy one. From Tybee Island to London it is over 4,100 miles. Also, the temperature of the Atlantic Ocean will get much colder the more north someone goes. Temperatures off the coast of Canada are in the mid 50’s right now.
Not The First Time He Tried To Travel In The Hamster Wheel
In 2014 he embarked on a journey, but he had to be rescued near Saint Augustine. Secondly, in 2016 he had to be rescued off the coast of Jupiter. Finally, in 2021 he was found by Flagler County deputies when his hamster wheel washed ashore near Saint Augustine. He wanted to make a journey to New York in his hamster wheel. At that time, he said, “my goal is to not only raise money for homeless people raise money for the Coast Guard raise money for the police department raise money for the fire department. They are in public service. They do it for safety and that they help other people.”
This Florida man may have made his last trip in his hamster wheel.
