Tampa Streetcar Breaks Record
Tampa streetcar breaks record. Have you ridden it? It’s kinda fun! The Tampa Streetcar continues to be a standout transportation option around downtown and Ybor City. In December 2022, the historic streetcar system carried more than 118,000 riders, setting a new monthly record for ridership. This surge in ridership can be attributed to a variety of holiday-themed activities, parades, outdoor markets, curated events at the aquarium, and visitors looking to explore the food scenes in Tampa Heights and Ybor.
This year, the streetcar also reached a major milestone by surpassing one million riders in a single year. On September 1, 2022, Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (HART) revealed that a customer by the name of Arpan was the official one millionth rider of the year. He was on his way to USF Health Morsani College of Medicine when staff surprised him as the millionth rider.
The TECO Line Streetcar is run by the Hillsborough Area Regional Transportation Authority and is owned by the city of Tampa, and managed by Tampa Historic Streetcar, Inc. In 2022 it ranked second nationally for overall ridership.
What a great day! Today, we celebrated 20 YEARS since our iconic yellow #streetcars returned to service.
