Disney To Develop 55+ Community Near Orlando
Disney to develop a 55+ community near Orlando. A planned community near Orlando would be a large new real estate venture for Disney.
Disney Corporation is already moving a couple of thousand jobs from their California offices to Lake Nona, just southeast of Orlando. A developer from that area, Tavistock, is teaming up with Disney to build the new age-restricted community.
Disney has already developed Celebration, just south of Walt Disney World. There’s also an upscale housing development on Walt Disney World property called Golden Oak. With the huge growth of The Villages, Disney is banking on the success of a 55+ community.
Called Sunbridge, the development is 27,000 acres, much smaller than The Villages, which as a 55+ community, is already one of the fastest growing areas in the country. It’s also just a half an hour drive from Walt Disney World and Orlando, and an hour-and-a-half away from Tampa.
The size of the community, though smaller than The Villages, is still a pretty large one. Combined between Orange and Osceola Counties, Sunbridge could grow into a development that includes:
- Over 22,000 single-family homes
- Over 13,000 multi-family homes and more than 5,000 hotel rooms
- More than 10 million square feet of office space
- Nearly 5.5 million square feet of retail, commercial and industrial space
