In 2023 more than 470 million luggage bags Flew on airplanes. 2,697,057 were mishandled by airlines. They define mishandled as being lost, delayed, damaged, or stolen. The research even goes a little bit further and gives details about lost wheelchairs, and scooters. 817,176 wheelchairs and scooters on airplanes and 11,289 were mishandled according to the report report.
The airline that lost the most luggage in 2023 was Southwest Airlines. They mishandled 587,339 bags. However, 129 million bags flew on their airplanes. Coming in second was American Airlines with 582,499 bags miss handled. United Airlines came in third with 412,601 pieces of luggage mishandled.
