The best pizza spot in Tampa has been named and it’s all according to a new study. Pizza in Tampa Bay has been given the spotlight recently. That is because Dave Portnoy from Barstool Sports came through the Tampa Bay area on his “One Bite Pizza”. Dave judges the pizza based on one bite .
So what is the best pizza spot in Tampa? Well according to the study, it is Eddie and Sam’s in downtown Tampa. The study came from Stacker and they used Yelp’s top 100 pizza spots list. They looked at thousands of reviews to rank the top pizza spots in major cities across the United States. They looked at factors, including total volume and ratings of reviews.
The Secret Behind The Best Pizza Spot In Tampa
On their website, they say the secret to their taste is the water. They say, “That’s how people who visit Eddie & Sam’s N.Y. Pizza in downtown Tampa explain the mouthwatering slices, pies, and other Italian convections they’ve enjoyed since 1998. Eddie & Sam’s N.Y. Pizza has been a tradition, since 1982, when they were founded in N.Y.”
They go on to say about their pizza, “Classic New York style pizza is characterized by its wide, foldable slices with thick, flavorful crust. The iconic crust has been attributed to the minerals in the New York water that pizzaiolos use to make the dough. Eddie & Sam’s N.Y. Everyone has their favorite pizza location in the Tampa Bay area. I have been to many here in the Bay area, but I understand why Eddie and Sam’s was named best pizza spot in Tampa. It is absolutely delicious. Whenever I am in Downtown Tampa and have a 15 minutes to spare I always make sure I stop by Eddie and Sam’s for a slice.

Barstool President Dave Portnoy Pizza Tour Around Tampa Bay Official Rankings
Those who are passionate about their pizza know about Barstool’s Dave Portnoy. He’s the founder of Bartstool Sports and is known for his controversial pizza ratings from across the country on “One Bite Pizza“. Most know the rules, Dave judges pizza based on one bite. Well, he was in Florida this week and stopped in Sarasota and Tampa Bay. Keep scrolling to find out which pizza places Dave Portnoy visited in Tampa Bay. All of the ratings aren’t out yet, so we’ll update this post as soon as they drop.
The Barstool legend started his pizza tour in Sarasota at IL Panificio Pizzeria. After someone hyped up the mom-and-pop shop with mixed reviews, he decided to check it out himself. He ordered 1 large cheese pizza and after “one bite” he declared “Not bad at all”, but wished it was a little crispier. He gave the pizza a 7.4 rating, which is pretty good for Dave’s standards. This is a higher rating than Tampa staple Eddie & Sam’s. Dave gave them a 7.1 rating 5 years ago.
The highest ranked spot on Dave’s list with a score of a perfect 10 is Monte’s Restaurant in Lynn, MA. So far his highest ranked pizza spot in Florida is Mister O1- South Beach in Miami with a ranking of 8.1. But let’s see how those rankings change after he posts his Tampa reviews.
