Tampa Ranks High Among Cities With The Most Bed Bugs
If you’ve ever thought the bed bug problem in the area was bad, you’re not going to like this new report from Orkin. Tampa ranks high among cities with the most bed bugs.
I hate bugs. I hate the thought of bugs crawling around my bed when I am sleeping. Unfortunately, there are lots of critters crawling around our beds. Tampa has just been put on the list of the U.S. cities with the most bed bugs. Coming in at number 31 on the list. Miami comes in at number 45. Luckily, for us were not in this list of the top 10.
- Chicago, Illinois
- New York, New York
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
- Cleveland-Akron, Ohio
- Los Angeles, California
- Detroit, Michigan
- Washington, D.C.
- Indianapolis, Indiana
- Charlotte, North Carolina
- Champaign, Illinois
According to Orkin, bed bugs have “small, flat, oval-shaped bodies” and are wingless. Adult bed bugs are brown, but their bodies can turn reddish after feeding. These critters are also hematophagous, which means they only feed off of blood. That is just disguising. They are feeding off you while you are sleeping. They are not there to live in your bed, but to feed off of you.

How To Check For Bed Bugs
Orkin recommends some things you can check at your home for signs of bed bugs.
- Look at mattress tags and seams as well as behind baseboards, headboards, electrical outlets and picture frames.
- Inspect your house when you move in, after a trip, or after guests stay overnight.
- Decrease clutter around your home to spot bed bugs.
- Examine all secondhand furniture before bringing it inside your home.
When you travel, use the S.L.E.E.P Method
- Survey the hotel room for signs of an infestation
- Lift and look in bed bug hiding spots: the mattress, box spring, furniture, behind baseboards, pictures, torn wallpaper.
- Elevate your luggage away from the bed and wall
- Examine your luggage while repacking and after you’re home.
- Place clothing from your luggage in the dryer for at least 30-45 minutes after you’re home.
I wash everything from my trip when I get home, whether I wore it or not, just to clean it and make sure it’s clear of Bed Bugs.
Here Is The Most Roach-Infested City In Florida
When it comes to roaches, I like calling them Palmetto bugs. Sounds classier right? If you live in Florida you have seen many roaches, but what city is the most infested? I live in St. Petersburg and it did not make this list. “Here is the most roach-infested city in Florida.” Can you guess the city? You will see below.
If you have roaches does it mean your home is dirty?
According to the National Pesticide Information Center, “Finding roaches is not a sign that your house is dirty. Even if you clean regularly and maintain a tidy home, cockroaches can usually find food and water without much trouble. This allows them to thrive in many environments.”
Roaches have been on this earth for over 200 years. The common cockroach can survive forces up to 900 times greater than its own body weight. Roaches can also squeeze through openings. On top of all of this their reproduction abilities, are very quick. These are all the reasons roaches are hard to eliminate. Roach infestations are most common in summer months because they thrive in hot temperatures!
Funny Roach story
I once went to a guy’s house and woke up to a roach in my wig. I felt so dirty! He apologized but at that point, I was already disgusted. His house was actually not dirty, so I don’t know why there was a roach in my wig.
Have you ever been in a situation like this? Is a person having roaches in their home a deal breaker? I want to hear your stories! Feel free to email me at Babs@wild941.com. As you read above, someone having roaches in their home doesn’t necessarily mean their house is dirty.
Below are the 5 most roach-infested cities in the United States. The results below are based on a survey done by the American Housing Association.
