Missing Hernando County Boy Found By Retired Marine
Missing Hernando County boy found alive by retired marine. This is FANTASTIC news. On Friday morning, a two-year-old boy named Joshua “JJ” Rowland was found safe and sound after being missing for nearly 24 hours. The search for the toddler was a massive undertaking, with hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement officers combing the rural area in Hernando County, Florida.
According to Hernando County Sheriff Al Neinhuis, Rowland was found south of Parrott Middle School and east of Cobb Road. The moments leading up to the discovery were recounted by Roy Link, a former U.S. Marine Corps member who worked for more than 32 years with the Hernando County parks department as a supervisor.
Link described crossing a field and coming upon some woods while listening intently during his search. He heard a “whimpering” noise that caught his ear, and he believed it was JJ. “Sure enough, I went in the woods, [about] 100 feet from where I was at. I think he was in some stickers, but he was happy to see me. He put his arms, his hands up…he was real happy and he wanted mom. He started hollering for mom,” Link said.
The sheriff expressed his relief that JJ had been found safe and sound, saying, “I got to admit, I’m a little emotional because I thought, surely, we were going to have bad news. It is a good day in Hernando County. Just a very good day.”
While the toddler appears to be doing fine, he is still being taken to the hospital by his parents out of an abundance of caution. It is fortunate that this story had a happy ending, thanks to the tireless efforts of the search and rescue teams, volunteers, and Mr. Link. Channel10
