During Police Chase This Florida Woman Stops For A Quick Selfie
During Police Chase This Florida Woman Stops For A Quick Selfie. Deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Department were gathered at a checkpoint on Saturday night, trying to assist residents of the area with hurricane relief efforts. That’s when a Florida woman decided to shake things up a bit. As the deputies worked the checkpoint, a vehicle approached at a high rate of speed, drove right through the stop and continued on. But wait, it gets far more bizarre. Suddenly, the woman who was driving the car made a u-turn and drove back toward the officers, again moving very quickly.
Investigators say 24-year-old Shelby Peters sped through the checkpoint again without stopping, endangering the lives of the deputies. On the return trip, the woman was driving the wrong way down a one way street. After the woman ran through the checkpoint the first time, a deputy jumped in his patrol car and gave chase. During the chase, the deputy reported that Peters drove erratically, changing her speed and swerving in the lane. Suddenly, Peters stopped her car, seemingly giving up the chase.
As the officer approached her vehicle, the woman posed for a selfie as she sat behind the wheel and then sped off. After another short chase, the deputy was able to pull Peters over again and arrest her. Peters was charged with fleeing and eluding, DUI and a curfew violation. A Lee County Sheriff’s Department representative said the woman’s quick selfie actions showed that she had no respect for the safety of others. Source: WFLA.com
