Is this really happening to Derek Jeter’s Tampa mansion? Derek sold his Davis Islands mansion for $22.5 million in 2021. It is still the most expensive home ever sold in the Tampa Bay area. Tom Brady and his family rented it out from Jeter when Brady first became a Buccaneer.

Now, City of Tampa records show that the new owner of Jeter’s former house has filed for a commercial demolition permit. So, does that mean that Jeter’s house is going to be torn down? It looks like it and the house was only built in 2011. The house is almost 22,000 square feet. It also has 7 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a movie theater, a wine cellar, a gym and an air-conditioned six-car garage. It also has many other featured including having 345 feet of open bay on Davis Islands.

The new owner is a trust that is being run by a local lawyer. So, if the new owner tears down Derek Jeter’s Tampa mansion the look of Davis Islands will be looking a little different in the near future.

Tampa Bay is in the Top 10 best places to retire in the U.S. That’s according to WalletHub, which has just come out with their picks for the Best and Worst Places to Retire in the U.S.

They judged more than 180 cities across 46 key metrics ranking them in areas like affordability, activities, quality of life and health care.

They have claimed that Charleston, South Carolina is the best place to retire. While, Bridgeport, CT is the worst place to retire.

Four Florida cities are in the Top 10 best places to retire with Tampa making that Top 10.

  • 2 - Orlando

    Orlando does have some of the most overpriced homes in the nation. Ranking 7th in Florida and 22nd in the nation. Average home price is $399,709 in Orlando.

  • 3 - Cincinnati, OH

  • 4 - Miami

    Miami also has some of the most overpriced home in the nation. They are 9th in Florida and 38th in the nation. The average home price is $467,759.

  • 5 - Ft. Lauderdale

  • 6 - San Francisco, CA

  • 7 - Scottsdale, AZ

  • 8 - Wilmington, DE

  • 9 - Tampa

    One of the best places to retire is right here in Tampa. Although, Tampa has some of the most overpriced houses in the nation. Tampa comes in 3rd in Florida and 9th in the nation. The average home price is $386,326.
