Florida Tuba Player Barred From Beach
All the guy wanted to do was to go to the beach, break out his tuba, and play his heart out every day.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, it was working out very well for him until the cops showed up as he walked toward the surf. Turns out, there’s a law against public performances on the beach in Fort Myers. Who knew?
Derrick Nangle, the man who was told to leave the beach with his tuba, is a music therapy major and he loves nothing more than to play his tuba on the beach as he watches the waves come in. He says music totally relieves his stress.
A town manager in Fort Myers says that playing a tuba on the beach constitutes a violation of the city’s law against entertainment on the beach. The tuba player says he’d love to continue playing on the beach, but the law will have to change before he can do so again.
