U.S. Having Fewer Babies. Housing Market Cries A Little.
In 1985, more than half (59%) of home buyers had children. Now, only 33% have kids. Some think the “baby bust” trend will go on long after the pandemic. Baby rate at lowest in 100 years.
What does this mean to real estate sales? Let’s look at one home buyer’s checklist.
- Good Schools? No kids. Don’t care.
- Big, giant 4 bedroom house? No kids. Don’t care.
- Located near ball fields etc? No kids. Don’t care.
Some of the things that may have been added value in the past. Maybe not so much today. Time to worry? Not at all. Just be aware as you invest. I may want to buy near the best school, even with no kids, so that when I do sell, I can have a bigger pool of buyers. Buyers with kids tend to buy a little bigger home. Pandemic also has many buyers thinking about more space to work from home too.
