Making your plans for a night out for the weekend? It’s always smart to start here. Friday nights we bring you the weekly report from inspectors checking in on local Tampa Bay restaurants. Keep in mind, just like where you work, we can all have a bad day so hopefully these places will clean up their act.
Sorry I’m a little late this week. I was chowing down on lobster rolls and turkey when Friday’s report came out. Hey it’s how we do Thanksgiving in Maine. It was actually kind of a slow week anyway. None of the restaurants on this week’s list had more than 40 violations.
A sushi spot in St. Pete topped the list though this week with 31 violations, according to Channel 8. Mori Sushi on 94th Ave had fish that was raw or undercooked. Wait? It’s a sushi place!? But I guess this fish was “nonexempt” and hadn’t had “proper parasite destruction.” Specifically they say it was the conch, mackerel and salmon. There were also food temperature storage issues with the shrimp, chicken, eel, and cream cheese. There were also signs of roach activity.
One of my favorite Tampa taco spots also had problems. Inspectors say they found bleach stored next to “faux butter” at the Taco Bus on Hillsborough.
Other restaurants with 20 or more violations this week:
- Cody’s Original Roadhouse in Spring Hill: 26 violations
- New York Buffet in Tampa: 23 violations
- Danny’s All American Cafe in Tampa: 22 violations
- Thai Basil in Clearwater: 24 violations
- Manatees on the Bay in Gulfport: 25 violations
- Gill Dawg in Port Richey: 26 violations
If you missed it, here’s last week’s report.
