6 Florida Cities Make 2023 U.S. “Allergy Capitals” List
Sneezing up a storm lately? Got a runny nose or watery eyes? The 2023 list is out from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America of the 20 cities that were named “allergy capitals.” They measured things like pollen scores from trees and grass and use of over the counter medication purchases.
The biggest 3 cities to avoid are Wichita, Dallas, and Scranton. Sorry Michael Scott. Even though Kansas, Texas and Pennsylvania are quite far away from us, Florida had the most cities on the list by far. Seven Florida cities are a nightmare for allergy sufferers. And yes, 3 of the 7 are right here in our listening area.
Topping their allergy capital list for Florida is Sarasota. Sarasota ranked #6 in the country just ahead of #7 and #8, Cape Coral and Orlando. Miami came in at #14. Following right behind is Lakeland at #15, Palm Bay at #17 and Tampa at #18.
About 26% of adults and 19% of kids suffer from allergic rhinitis (or “hay fever”), according to AAFA.org. [Source: AAFA]
