For years it’s been talked about and it looks like it’ll finally happen: USF will get its own stadium. The USF Board of Trustees agreen today on the plan to finance it, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal. For years, the team has been playing its games at Raymond James Stadium. But soon students won’t need to leave campus. Here’s what we know so far about the new stadium that’ll be built.
How much will it cost?
$340 million is the anticipated price tag for the project.
Where will it go?
It’ll be on the northeastern end of the Tampa campus on Sycamore Fields near 50th and Fletcher.
How many will it seat?
The plan calls for a 35,000 seat stadium. That’s about half the capacity of Raymond James Stadium.
How’s it being paid for?
USF is issuing a 20 year loan with a 5.5% interest rate for $200 million. The rest will come from donations and proceeds. The Journal reports that The USF Foundation is expected to raise $50 million. They’ve already been given a $5 million donations from Frank and Carol Morsani and one from Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik.
When will it be done?
The hope seems to be that the new stadium will be ready to go for the 2026 USF Football season.
