Reports Say a Tom Brady Retirement Announcement Is Imminent
Bucs fans have been wondering all week if when Tom Brady stepped off the field last weekend after the loss to the Rams… was that TB12’s final game? It looks now like it was.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted moments ago that Tom Brady will indeed retire after 22 seasons in the NFL. He says multiple sources are telling him and fellow ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington this. Schefter is rarely wrong. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports also says he expects the announcement within the next few days, saying his sources in Brady’s inner circle feel he wants to get it out of the way now so it’s not a distraction as the Super Bowl gets close.
Tom Brady himself has yet to officially confirm this on any of his social media. But he also said that he never wanted a “farewell season” like some QBs. Brady posted this message to Bucs fans this week:
I understand that at this stage in my career, there is going to be interest in my future whenever a season ends, but this week, all that is on my mind is the gratitude I have for this team and the fans that have supported us all year long. This year has been incredibly rewarding personally and professionally and I am appreciative of everyone who worked their ass off to help our team achieve so much.
I always want to win, I think that’s pretty apparent by now, but that doesn’t mean I equate losing to failure, especially when you go out fighting the way we did.. There’s so much to appreciate in a season like this when you’re surrounded by a team that believes in each other, and plays for the people standing on either side of them. I’ll spare you the Man in the Arena quote, but that feeling is something that I promise I’ll never take for granted. To everyone that was a part of it this year, thank you. I love you all!
It’s amazing to consider the longevity of Tom Brady’s domination of the NFL both for the Bucs and the New England Patriots. Nothing shows that more than when you look at these photos from his rookie days.
