Help On The Way For Florida Independent Workers
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis gives updates about the state's response to the coronavirus pandemic during a press conference on April 17 in Fort Lauderdale.
They’re often called “gig workers.” If you drive for Uber or work for yourself, the state has announced they’re going to create a separate website for you to get financial assistance, according to The Tampa Bay Times. The bad news is that it’ll probably take a week or two to build. Then there will be the wait. But once it’s up and running, Governor DeSantis said independent contractors will be able to file for unemployment compensation of $600 a week for up to 4 months. They say about 1 out of every 5 workers in Florida are “gig workers” – the highest percentage in the country. [Source: Tampa Bay Times]
